Greetings,
The conference committee is pleased to announce that as of March 15, we have received a high volume of abstracts. Given the number of requests for deadline extension, however, we have agreed to accept abstracts until March 22.
To ensure a transparent and rigorous assessment process, the Conference Committee has invited a number of post-secondary-based scholars to undertake blind peer review of all abstracts. These experts shall review and rank abstracts according to the overarching goal of scholarly merit and contribution to the advancement of African Canadian Studies. Based on this objective, review and rank criteria shall include: creativity appropriate to discipline, clarity and coherency of argument, and originality of scholarship and research. Please rest assured that as third party review, your confidentiality is guaranteed and thus abstracts will be assessed on their merit.
Since we are working on a short time line and you are expecting to receive word on the status of your abstract, we endeavor to complete the review and notification, as expected, by March 31.
You may be wondering about the cost of registration. We will, this week, add a registration tab to the conference homepage. Toward ensuring community accessibility, you can expect a $65 conference registration fee for the two days of the conference. We are pleased to announce that for registrants with disabilities requiring an assistant, the conference fee shall be waived. The registration form will enable persons with disabilities to specify their needs.
For those who will require campus accommodation, we will also add to the conference accommodation tab the procedure to book reservations through Brock Conference Services. Accommodation on the campus will be $55/night and include continental breakfast.
Sincerely,
The Conference Committee
